Job Description
One of our large Aerospace clients located in the Whitby area, is in search of a Plant Manager with 5 years of experience in a Manufacturing environment, on an initial contract for 3 months. This position has the potential to be converted to full-time within or after the 3 month period, if the successful candidate is performing well.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage plant operations with overall responsibilities for production, housekeeping, quality, and other production-related activities
- Plan, Organize, Direct, and Run day-to-day operations to meet manufacturing targets and support customers’ expectations
- Coordinate, and Manage Unionized Hourly Manufacturing employees and others to ensure that manufacturing targets and objectives are met
- Accountable for Health and Safety in Operations – ensuring compliance to all established Health & Safety rules and provincial laws
- Liaison with senior management on the status of production projects and daily operations. Attend and participate in various company meetings and provide updates as required
- Communicate with the production team and share company goals and objectives
- Develop, Recommend, Participate in continuous improvement systems for production methods, production information systems, interactions with other functions and groups
- Work with management to evaluate equipment upgrades and capex requirements
- Ensure all employees are trained adequately for their particular job function and that they are performing the job in the manner outlined
- Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformity relating to product, process and quality system
- Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process and quality system; recommend or provide solutions through designated channels
Requirements:
- 5+ years of work experience as a Plant Manager in a metal finishing, sheet metal fab or machine shop manufacturing environment. Hands on operation and supervisory responsibilities in multiple metal finishing processes such as electroplating, anodizing and painting, and other general fabrication activities
- Experience with industry standard equipment with strong technical knowledge and expertise
- Experience implementing quality systems and lean manufacturing practices is highly desired
- Experience with managing unionized employees
- Strong communication skills – both written and verbal
- Ability to utilize as well as create effective excel spreadsheets. Experienced user of Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Facilitation experience and strong leadership skills with the ability to successfully work with different levels of personnel
- Some knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation etc.)
- Computer literacy in Microsoft 365 products and the ability to learn AeroTek’s production software
- Strong leadership skills
Education:
- College Diploma in Operations or Skilled Trade Certificate or equivalent education required
Experience:
- Unionized employee Supervisory: 5 years (preferred)
- Business & Management: 5 years (preferred)
- Manufacturing Plant Manager or Production Management: 5 years (required)
- Computer literacy: (required)
- Metal finishing experience: 5 years preferred
Hourly Rate: $25 – $40 per hour
